Early Advantage Child Care Curriculum

What is the Second Step Curriculum?

The Second Step Curriculum (Second Step) is an evidence-based social-emotional learning (SEL) program that empowers children from preschool (PreK) through elementary school, middle school, and more.

At Early Advantage, our curriculums help children thrive as they work to develop the skills to manage their emotions, develop relationships with others, and make responsible decisions.

What is Social-emotional learning (SEL)?

Why is Social Emotional Learning Important?

Social-emotional skills are crucial for your child to thrive in the classroom by making them more comfortable and receptive to learning.

Second Step Curriculum

What is Social-Emotional Learning?

SEL is the process through which children learn to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.  With the Second Step Curriculum, children can practice skills daily through teacher led activities, group play, and reinforcement of concepts learned throughout the day.

These skills are essential for a child’s successful development and are foundational to academic success.

Social-emotional learning helps students build:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision-Making Skills

How is the Second Step Curriculum Beneficial for Children?

Appropriate for children from 3-to-11 years of age, the Second Step Curriculum helps to provide structured lessons and activities that can be used in the classroom, at home, and in schoolwide events.
